Petition for the temporary re-introduction of free short-stay parking in Ormskirk.

Visitor numbers in Ormskirk town centre remain well down on pre-Covid levels and we're worried that Labour’s planned re-introduction of the same car park charges as previously doesn’t recognise the impact of the pandemic.

We wrote to the Borough Council Leader and Chief Officer in July asking that short stay parking for shoppers and visitors to the town remain free until the end of the year. Clearly, at the moment they aren’t listening.

With retailers facing many challenges right now, OWL feel it is appropriate to extend short-stay free parking until the end of the year to keep the recent recovery in the town centre going. We understand long-stay charges work as a deterrent to all-day parking for those not necessarily using the town centre, but FREE short-stay parking would be a real boon for retailers at this time..

We the undersigned urge WLBC and the Labour administration to reconsider and keep short stay parking free in Ormskirk until the end of the year.
